James Miller received his BFA at the Laguna College of Art and Design, Laguna Beach, CA and his MFA at the Yale School of Art, Newhaven CT. He has exhibited on both coasts and was the recipient of the Dedalus Foundation Fellowship in 2015. Miller’s cathartic, atmospheric paintings are experimental and in constant flux, while being rooted in an education in classical painting and methodology. His work is a way to explore the concept of image making and the materiality of paint from an art historical context by constructing and deconstructing subject matter and light phenomena, often incorporating elements of printmaking and airbrushing. Miller currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
