Jenny Hankwitz earned her BFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara and her work has been exhibited internationally and been reviewed in publications such as the New York Times, Art in America, the Brooklyn Rail, and Hyperallergic among others. Hankwitz's paintings are combination of deliberate abstraction and chance playfulness. Splats and whirling imagery derive from everyday forces: turbulence, heartbeat, water, sky. For some paintings, she traces flung slip markings in the clay studio. Her hands-on process begins with computer as sketchbook. Moving into the physical world, drawing directly on canvas, delving into cups of color to capture a moment of clarity.
