  • ABOUT

William Graef's interest in the structure and multifaceted nature of language is most evident in his tongue-in-cheek sculptural object and installation work that nods towards socio-political commentary. During New York's period of quarantine, his ongoing "Q Series" has taken his interest in language and abstracted it on a two-dimensional surface.  Graphically overlapping acryonyms relevant to contemporary discourse, the words they reprepresent are further distanced from their compounded meaning as they visually influence and obfuscate each other.

William Graef lives and works in New York’s East Village. He has exhibited his work mainly in and around New York City where he has been reviewed in The New York Times and is in the collection of The New-York Historical Society. Graef was awarded fellowships at MacDowell and the Art In Embassy program. Having first studied engineering at The University of Michigan he holds a fine art degree from Pratt Institute.
